JL CARES AND JHS FOOTBALL CLEAN UP MILL CREEK

Written by: Sarah Lenaburg & Marissa Casper

On Saturday, June 22nd, a dedicated group of over 75 volunteers from JL Cares, the JHS Football Team, extended family, friends, coaches, parents, and community members came together to conscientiously clean up Bothell Everett Highway in Mill Creek.

JL Remodeling, a respected local business, is fervently committed to giving back. In 2021, they established JL Cares, the non-profit arm of JL Remodeling.

JL Cares demonstrates unwavering dedication to its local communities by facilitating remodeling efforts for those in need and diligently seeking areas where they can make an impactful difference, such as orchestrating the cleanup of Bothell Everett Highway in Mill Creek alongside the Jackson High School Football booster club.

The cleanup effort in Mill Creek was focused on Bothell Everett Highway, spanning from Henry M Jackson High School to 164th Street. Over the course of 3 hours, the volunteers diligently cleared all trash along the highway, adjoining parking lots, trails, and even within the town center and City Hall areas. The items collected included diverse objects such as half a bicycle, hub caps, raft oars, and an astonishing number of cigarette butts, accumulating into a substantial pile of rubbish and outsized items that filled a sizable pull-behind trailer.

Throughout the trash pickup, the volunteers were met with honks and waves of support from passing cars, and those utilizing the trails in Mill Creek paused to express their gratitude with heartwarming gestures.

Many of the teenage volunteers shared that they found the experience more enjoyable than expected, attributing it to the camaraderie among friends.

The Henry M Jackson High School Football Team extends its deep appreciation to JL Cares for organizing a community service event that allowed the entire football team to take part.

At the conclusion of the event, every participant departed with a strong sense of fulfillment, assured that their time was well spent and that their community was left in a cleaner state.
